That’s why Woodstock was never about hippies. It wasn’t even ultimately about the music or getting back to some imagined paradise. It was the revelation that the new world didn’t only belong to people privileged enough to drop out. Woodstock was mostly empty when Jimi Hendrix played on Monday morning because people had to get back to SCHOOL, get back to WORK.
